Material

"Smart-U"is made from Wrought Titanium-Nickel(NiTi) Shape Memory Alloy, which is the material already standardized by ASTM F2063-00 for medical devices and surgical implants.

Indications

  • Large disc herniation (esp. young patient)
  • Recurrent disc herniation
  • Degenerative disc diseases adjacent to fusion level
  • Degenerative stenosis : Foraminal, central

Contraindications

  • Spondylolysis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Spinous process insufficiency
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Severe degenerative disc disease(disc space collapse)

The selected implant is soaked in iced saline solution and it is deformed easily with implant holder. After the implant is positioned in the interspinous space, warm saline solution is poured around the implant to restore original shape.
